I don’t know what it’s like where you live, but it is a chilly one here today in America’s Southeast. In the low 40’s with a light rain which has been falling since last night, it is hard to get motivated.
But on an up note, the third book in the Gambler’s Fooy series, The Russian, will be coming out soon! Watch for news of its release.
And my NaNoWriMo project, Whiskey Jug Genie, is coming along nicely. I have the ending in sight. Now if I can just get there… These characters. Always interfering in my plot line.
So after I have a bite to eat and check on the fire, I’ll be here at my desk checking in with Martin and Bubba to see what’s going on in their shop in the suburbs of London.
Is the romance between Martin and Diane going to grow stronger?
Is the wizard who was causing all the trouble going to escape?
Or will he get what’s coming to him?
Well, I think I know the answers to those questions, but I’ll have to see what our fearless trio has in mind.
In the meantime, stay warm, stay happy, and stay safe.
A piu tardi…

Yes, NaNoWriMo is almost over. Tomorrow is the last day. Those who have reached the 50,000 word goal will be declared winners. And there will be quite a few who will not have attained the required word count, who will be disappointed, frustrated, and wondering if they’re really cut out to be writers.
But no matter your word count, the fact that you started a book and worked on it for a month says you’ve won something. Maybe you didn’t finish as much as you’d hoped to.
But you wrote. For a month.
This could be the beginning of a habit that will see your first book published.
Everyone has different ways of staying motivated, or of making time to sit and write. I go for a walk in the afternoon, come back and stretch out, and with a glass of water in hand, I set the timer for 30 minutes.
During those thirty minutes, I write on my WIP. It may not be award winning prose, but I will have taken my project a little further down the road. If it’s a first draft, I can polish it up later. Or delete the passages I don’t like and rewrite.
But I will have made progress.
And you can, too.
If you want to give it a try, just get a cheap little timer from Amazon or Walmart–or any place you shop–put it next to where you are going to write, and choose your time.
Once that time is near, get your mind focused on your project, turn on that laptop, set your timer, and start writing. You may want to read over the last page or two of what you wrote the day before to get into the flow. But write for that half hour.
If you started NaNoWriMo with us, you are a winner. You may not get the certificate or the T-shirt, but you’ve earned my respect for having signed up and given it a go.
Besides, there’s always Camp NaNoWriMo coming up in April…
But for now, it’s time to get back to Whiskey Jug Genie!

If you liked Gambler’s Folly, you’ll certainly love The Russian. Book 3 in the series of books from Gambler’s Folly, this is the story of wolf-shifter, Dmitri Ivanovich Volkov, and his soul mate, Danni.
No one knows for sure how old Dmitri–known to his friends as Dima–actually is, but he’s been around over 500 years at least. His earlier years were spent in what had been known as Russia, but since then he has travelled all over the know universe, mainly as a mercenary.
A little over 200 years ago, he met his soulmate Ilyana and they were together for fifty years. When she died, she took his heart with her to the grave. Since then he has hunted alone, neither wanting nor needing any type of romantic relationship.
He currently works with the Special Unit of Interpol, alongside Damiano, Dante, and the bear shifter who is the chief. On a trip to Gambler’s Folly, he finds a young woman threatened by gang members and goes to her rescue.
Maybe Mother Nature is giving him a second chance at happiness.
The Russian is now available for pre-order at Smashwords for $0.99. Once it is released, the price will go up, so go on over and check it out.
How about an excerpt before we go?
If it hadn’t been for her scent, he would have been fine. Lilacs with honeyed-vanilla and white musk had wrapped around him softly. Hazel eyes under blonde curls had drawn him in. He’d thought, after all this time, he had control over his urges. What had possessed him to kiss her?
Her mouth now, there was a treat. Fresh raspberries and sweet white wine still teased his palette. Between her scent and her taste, he was one messed up wolf. He wanted to run through the forest, roll in the leaves, and howl to his pack mates about this delicious female he’d met.
No, he wouldn’t see her again. He didn’t need a relationship. Life around him was too uncertain. Besides, he’d had a mate long ago and, when she’d died, she’d taken his heart to her grave.
He was here for a job. He had no time for females.

Yes! It’s that time of year. I debated joining in the fun, but finally decided to just go ahead and dive in.
What is NaNoWriMo?
National Novel Writing Month. It’s a time for writers or aspiring writers to join together with others and finish a novel in one month.
Sounds fun, huh?
You have 30 days to complete 50,000 words. And there is all kinds of merchandise–and even more if you complete your task.
It’s a way to motivate yourself to begin or finish that novel you’ve had in mind. With pep talks from published authors, online buddies to help spur you on, a daily word count calendar, and all manner of writer’s resources, it’s a good way to get going.
Don’t have a story to write?
You can still donate to the cause!

Yes, it’s that time of year again. October means Breast Cancer Awareness.
As a survivor, it is a time for me to sit down and reflect on things. And a few years ago, I wondered how my experience could be used to help others.
What had been my main fear at the time? Was it fear of the disease itself? Fear of the treatment?
No. While those things were a concern, they weren’t my main concern.
My main fear was of what I didn’t know. How would the treatment affect me? And for how long? What was the process from diagnosis moving forward?
Once the cancer was diagnosed, things moved at a blinding speed. While I’m sure my doctors talked to me about the process, much of it was in a language I didn’t understand. Since they deal with this all the time, I suppose they assume everyone will follow what they’re trying to say.
But when you’re dealing with the emotional trauma of the diagnosis as well as everything else going on in life, it all becomes a blur.
So I sat down to write a short book about my experience, from a layman’s point of view. Something people could refer back to, if they’re treatment was similar to mine.
And something to give them hope.
You can find my little book on Amazon for Kindle.
Or it’s available at Audible as well.
If you have been diagnosed with breast cancer, or know someone who could benefit from reading this, please go ahead and take the plunge.
And don’t forget to have the girls checked out. Make sure they’re healthy.
