…are perfect for reading.

Have you read Master of the Fleet?

He’s a weather shaper, controlling the elements wind and water, to keep his ships safe out at sea.

She’s the lovely lady who has captured his heart. But she has a dark secret, which doesn’t come out until she is bound to him by a blood oath and marriage vows.

How about an excerpt?

One evening about halfway through that last week, Anne-Marie looked up into his eyes. He had been morose since dinner, contemplating the journey back to the Côte, and wondering how he was going to cope with the circumstances he now faced.

“Richard, I’m sorry,” she said. “If I could go back and relive the evening of the banquet, knowing what I do now… But I can’t.”

“What do you suggest we do?” he asked angrily. “I’m bound to a woman who will never enjoy being with me, never be excited by my touch or my kiss.”

“I can’t help it, Richard. Maybe, in time, I will enjoy being touched. I don’t know.”

Sighing, Richard shook his head as he twirled the wine in his goblet. “All I ever wanted was for my wife to be my closest companion. In my bed, I hoped to bring her pleasure and make her happy to be my lover. I have no interest in simply using you to relieve my urges.”

“I will try, Richard, but I can’t promise. I never wanted to marry. Not after seeing what the worst of the drunkards do to women. I’ve seen only the scum of the world, not the cream of the crop.”

“I appreciate how you’ve shown affection when we’re out. I know it’s an act, but I appreciate the effort.”

“I’ve always enjoyed being out with you, but I won’t be a possession or a servant. I want to be my own person, not a prized catch to show off.”

“Have I ever treated you that way?” he asked as his temper began to rise.

“No, but now we’re married. The pursued has become the captured, and that can make all the difference.”

That night, when they went up to their room, Anne-Marie went into the dressing room to change for bed. Richard took the spare comforter, a blanket, and a pillow, to make up a bed on the floor.

He finished undressing as she stared at him, with her lips parted and disbelief in her eyes. If he hadn’t known better, he might have thought she was disappointed.

“Richard, please,” she tried once more.

“Bonne-nuit, Anne-Marie. Sweet dreams.”

As he tried to get comfortable on his makeshift pallet, he heard his wife get into bed, pull up the blankets, and turn over. A few minutes later, he heard her crying, muffling the sound with the bed clothes. He waited for her to stop, but she continued to sob into her pillow.

“Anne-Marie,” he called softly. “Anne-Marie?”

“Go to sleep, Richard.”

“Why are you crying?”

“I’m fine. Go to sleep,” she answered between choked breaths.

Now that Master of the Fleet is out for Kindle and in paperback, it’s time to start thinking about the next project under this name, Sultonna Nadine.

While I will have other books coming out under Mellie Miller, they are books in my two series. I’m reserving Sultonna for my standalones.

LADY CALLOWAY is already in the process. Another story in an alternate timeline, this story takes place in a London during the late 1800’s. In our story’s timeline, the Church has tremendous control over the citizens in every way. The Church and state are one governing body in the England of the time, and in Europe, which is where our story begins.

Lord Richard Calloway works in a department which liaises between the two halves of the government–the liturgical and the secular sides. His father and most of the men in his family have been confessors–individuals who can read peoples’ minds and correct them, if needed, to abolish heresy.

Liora, Richard’s wife, has been brought up in a small village to the north. Unknown to Richard, she was taught several heretical doctrines, which she still holds. If her heresy gets out, not only will she be subject to confession, he will lose his job, and possibly his life, for not turning her in as a heretic.

Taking time off to finish an interrupted honeymoon may give him the time he needs to help her understand her error and bring her back into the fold. But during their time together, they both begin to develop paranormal abilities forbidden by the church.

When Richard’s father reaches out to him, by means of one of these abilities, to tell him the confessors are coming for the two of them, not only is he confused, he is is now a hunted man with a wife to protect.

Watch here for news about LADY CALLOWAY , from Sultonna Nadine, and for new releases by Mellie Miller.

In the meantime, check out some of my other books, available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Books-a-Million, and Smashwords.

Yes! The paperback for Master of the Fleet is now available from CreateSpace and Amazon! And the digital version is under review at Amazon and should be available in a couple days.

Published under my pen name, Sultonna Nadine, Master of the Fleet is a standalone book, set in an alternate timeline of the American Northwest.

Richard LeMarnier was one of the wealthiest men on the Cote and a powerful shaper of wind and water. He’d finally met the woman he wanted to make his wife, and while she hadn’t refused his proposal, she hadn’t accepted either. Their trip back to her home kingdom for the festival should have been the perfect time to repeat his proposal, but somehow it all went wrong.

Now he’s married to a woman who will never enjoy being his lover. Doubly bound by marriage vows and a blood oath, he doubts there will be a happily-ever-after.

Anne-Marie had never intended to marry. You set them up, took them for what they had, and left in a pool of tears, claiming a family tragedy. But then she met Richard and played the game a little too long. How could she escape this prison called marriage?

If you like magic, fantasy, and romance, go check out Master of the Fleet. Also available in e-book from Smashwords.

Happy weekend!

Yeah, sitting here listening to the rain come down. I think my house needs pontoons.

So, what do you do when it’s a dark and rainy day outside? I’m trying to decide between knitting and reading. I have a knitting project started for a friend who’s expecting this fall. But my “to read” list is backing up also.

Decision, decisions…

What are you reading today?

Come with me to the Cote d’Or to visit with Richard and Anne-Marie. Set in an alternate timeline of the American Northwest, it is a tale of an America with a much stronger French influence, with kingdoms rather than states, and where magic is real.

Richard shapes wind and water in his capacity as master of the fleet for his family’s shipping firm. While he has master over these elements, a woman rules his heart. A woman who’s heart he hopes to win.

So let’s go for a visit, shall we, and leave all this rain behind.

I currently have two series up and going–Esperance and Speranza (Gambler’s Folly)–with more books in each series started and others planned. I also have a stand-alone about to release on Amazon.

And then there’s this one story, the one that wakes me up at night with new scenes. A book which would be in the Esperance  series, but was not previously planned. The book that is driving me crazy because I need to be working on another one, but can’t get this one out of my head.

Is it a good story line? Yes.

Would it fit in with the rest of the series? Yes.

Do I like the idea? Yes.

But the series isn’t ready for it yet. It needs the one I’m trying to work on.

So, the question is:

Do I force myself to write the one I should write?

Or do I write the one that keeps bugging me to be written?

Not a clue. But I’ll get there. They’ll both be written and released in the proper order. But sometimes being creative can make you crazy.

Or crazier than you were to begin with…

Welcome to March everyone! Let’s make it a great month.

From Master of the Fleet? Here’s a bit from the marriage ceremony.

Excerpt:

“Is there anything else I should know before we begin? If not, call your witnesses and we will conduct the ceremony.”

Richard had nothing else to say and apparently Anne-Marie didn’t either. Once the witnesses were present, the ceremony began. The group passed through the front gates into the courtyard, to stand in the presence of the heavens.

Those in the wedding party removed their shoes to stand on earth. With hands raised, eyes to the heavens, the priest began to intone the opening words of the marriage oath.

“In the presence of God, I call upon heaven and earth, water and fire, wind and spirit, to witness the union of Lord Sir Richard LeMarnier and Anne-Marie Desplaines…”

They made it through the ceremony without complications. He used the ring he’d bought for their betrothal for her wedding ring. She used his signet ring for his. These represented Earth. Candles lit during the ceremony represented fire, the couple was sprinkled with water, and the kiss represented an exchange of spirit. As the ceremony continued under the stars, the evening breeze swept around them, caressing them and adding its seal to the union. Arcane symbols bound their vows to each of the elements.

Bound by God and the six elements of creation, their human representatives bearing witness and completing the perfect ring of seven, the marriage was sealed by the priest, and recorded.
