With temperatures getting cooler and days getting shorter, it’s time to grab a cup of something wonderful and sit back with a good book.
Not quite time for a fire in the fireplace yet, but the cats are beginning to hint at the possibility. Rather pointedly in fact. Something about the way they sit in front of it, look at the fireplace, and then glare at me definitely says it all.
So what are you reading this weekend?
Later this year, the next book from Gambler’s Folly will be out–THE RUSSIAN.
Want to keep a closer watch? Join me on Facebook!
How about a little preview of this new tale from the pleasure capitol of the galaxy?
Excerpt:
If it hadn’t been for her scent, he would have been fine. Lilacs with honeyed-vanilla and white musk had wrapped around him softly. Hazel eyes under blonde
curls had drawn him in. He’d thought, after all this time, he had control over his urges.
What had possessed him to kiss her?
Her mouth now, there was a treat. Fresh raspberries and sweet white wine still teased
his palette. Between her scent and her taste, he was one messed up wolf. He wanted to
run through the forest, roll in the leaves, and howl to his pack mates about this delicious
female he’d met.
No, he wouldn’t see her again. He didn’t need a relationship. Life around him was too
uncertain. Besides, he’d had a mate long ago and, when she’d died, she’d taken his heart to
her grave.
He was here for a job. He had no time for females. Looking at the time, he picked up his
pace. He didn’t want to keep Dam and Kari waiting.
An hour later, he joined Damiano Leone and his wife, Karianna, for dinner. Dam was
impeccably dressed, as usual, and his mate was stunning. How did Damiano keep his wits about him with such a woman as his mate?
“Dima! Welcome to our humble abode,” Dam greeted him.
“Humble? You have very different standards, amico mio.”
The hand clasp and kisses on the cheek were warm and heartfelt. They had been through
some times together, for sure.
“And how are you, lovely lady?” he asked Kari.
“Superb, Dima. You look a little more excited than usual tonight. Everything fine?”
“I’ll tell you about it over dinner.”
With the appetizers on the table, the Russian recounted his experience from earlier in
the evening.
“And you have no idea who she is?” Dam asked. “You are right, of course. Rescuing damsels
in distress comes with the territory,” he added with a sizzling look at his wife.
“But kissing them passionately before you even know their name is not.”
“From you of all people. I’m surprised, Dima. Of course, it has been a long time since you
had a mate,” Dam said.
“I don’t need a mate,” Dmitri stated firmly.
“I’ve heard that before, and look what happened. And then there is Dante.”
“How is Dante? Still on Earth?”
“Yes. He has about another six months before he and Angela come to Gambler’s Folly.”
“And she is your cousin?” he asked in amazement.
“She is,” Karianna answered for her mate. “It took everyone by surprise.”
“Well, enough of the department is mated now. There is no need for any more.”
They passed several hours together, catching up on news from various places before
Dmitri went back to his apartment. The trip had been long and planet-fall always took a toll. Add the rest of the evening to it all and he was ready for bed.
He was not ready for the soft cloud of lilac and vanilla when he opened his apartment door. Danni’s scent had lingered on his clothes earlier and gently perfumed his apartment. With a growl, he gathered his clothes into a laundry bag and called room service. Maybe by the time he got out of the shower the scent would have dissipated.

I put The End at the bottom of Ben of Blackstone’s Forge two days ago and have turned my thoughts toward another book while Ben sits for a little bit. After a week or two, I’ll go back and start the first edit on it.
What is the new story? An English Wolf on Gambler’s Folly! This one to follow The Russian and Old Flame.
Paul Greyling hails from the London office, investigating a smuggling ring selling counterfeit Scotch. Before meeting with Dam and Kari, he sees a woman at the office he would like to ask out, but isn’t even sure of her name.
Sohpia. A lovely name. And Dam planned to invite them both to dinner, so they could meet.
But the next day, she is assigned to the smuggling case with Paul and Nagi. And it doesn’t go particularly well. She’s a feminist from New York and despises all the little courtesies gentlemen usually extend to women.
Dinner has the potential for disaster. What will happen between these two?
Right now, I have no idea, but I’ll bet they eventually get together.
Don’t you?

Have you ever had an idea in the middle of the night, written it down, and placed it in your ideas folder? And then forgotten all about it?
Yeah. One of those ideas.
While sorting through files yesterday, I came across a folder with book ideas in it, but it wasn’t in the place it should have been. Opening the file, I recognized the other ideas, but I couldn’t remember the last one.
Turns out it was another story line for the Speranza Series. Idea title–An English Werewolf on Gambler’s Folly.
Like I didn’t have enough on my plate from Gambler’s already…
Watch for The Russian later this year. It will be Book 3 from Gambler’s Folly, in the Speranza Series.
Next up after that will be a book in the Esperance Series–Talents–the continuing story of Viviane and introducing the new heir of Belfort. Connell is a ten year old little boy who must now train to become ruler of his clan. And he’s not happy…

I know, I know.
It has been a while.
But I have been writing. Honest!
How about an excerpt from Master of the Fleet? And maybe a snippet from a WIP?
Anne-Marie was tired from the trip, but where was she to sleep? They’d brought Richard to the first
room they could reach when he’d collapsed. This was a single room, with one small bed
and a sofa.
Richard was stretched out on his back taking up the whole bed. There wouldn’t have been room
for her, anyway, in such a tiny bed. His feet were sticking out the end and his right arm was on the
verge of falling off the bed. Everything from his elbow down hung out in mid-air.
Rummaging in the wardrobe, she found a blanket she could use. Maybe she could get another
one from the desk. Carefully closing the door, she went to ask the clerk for more blankets,
which he generously provided her.
“I am sorry about the room, Madame. We had a different one reserved for you on the second
floor. The men who carried your husband from the coach didn’t know who he was, so we put
him in there. I’d no idea he’d still be sleeping. Is there anything else I can get you?”
Back in the room, she made up the sofa, changed into a nightgown, and went back to sit
with Richard. His arm over the edge of the bed couldn’t be comfortable. As she tucked it
back up under the covers, she remarked on how heavy an arm is when it’s totally limp.
She knew he’d have been more comfortable if he’d had time to change out of his travel clothes,
but doubted she could undress him. Instead, she unbuttoned the first few buttons on his shirt,
loosened his belt and trousers, and tucked the covers around him again.
Why was she so concerned? She wasn’t in love with the man. True, he had been
very kind to her, both before their marriage and since. Maybe she simply needed him
to get back home. Once there, they would have to sort out a lot of things,
but they had to get there first.
It couldn’t be love. That door had been closed for ages. She had given up all hope for love
a long time ago. When she fell asleep and nearly toppled off the chair, she crawled under
the blankets on the sofa. Richard still lay as one dead. What would he be like
when he finally woke up?

Dmitri Ivanovich Volkov.
He is known as The Russian.
He is a werewolf.
During his lifetime of over 500 years, he has served in the military of many countries, and worked as a mercenary. He currently works for Interpol’s special division, alongside Damiano, Dante, and the rest of the gang.
But after losing his soul-mate two hundred years ago, he has avoided any serious relationships. Until now.
How could this tiny blond with hazel eyes turn his world upside down?
Watch for The Russian, coming soon from Speranza and Gambler’s Folly!
The next morning he met Dam, Marco, Paulo, and several of the others at the Interpol offices.
Damiano had been “picked up for questioning” earlier in the morning, to keep his cover intact.
As they waited in the break room for the chief to call them back, Dmitri told the others about
meeting his mystery woman the night before.
“I swear to you, I can’t get her scent out of my mind,” he stated as the others laughed in
amusement.
“I had to send my clothes to the cleaners last night.”
“Ah, well,” Marco said. “At least it will be a trip to remember.”
“Definitely,” Dmitri agreed. Sniffing the air, his eyes narrowed as he caught an all too familiar
scent.
“Lilacs and vanilla. She is here. My Danni is here.”
Spinning around, he charged out of the break room toward the accounting department.
Coming through the door, with an armload of files, was Danielle Peters, one of their accountants.
“Danni!” they all heard.
With a quick snap, her head turned toward the crazy Russian, and file folders cascaded to the
floor as she rushed to meet him.
“Dmitri! Why are you here?” she asked, with her arms tightly around him.
“Why are you here? I work for the agency.”
“So do I–in accounts.”
The next thing he knew, he was drawn into a kiss more passionate than the one the night before.
“Dima,” he heard. Intoxicated by the scent and taste of this sweet little female, he turned to stare
into Damiano’s eyes. “I see you’ve met our Danni.”
With a growl, Dmitri answered, “She is not your Danni. She is mine.”
“I am not a threat, my friend. I’m already mated. What I mean is, she is the Danni who works here
in the office with us.”
“I had no idea,” Dmitri answered.
Danni clung to him as if her life depended on it. Looking down into hazel-green eyes, he once again traced her face with his finger before his thumb
caressed her bottom lip. Once more, he leaned down to kiss those pouting lips
and taste the sweetness that was Danni.
“Dmitri Ivanovich! Leave the staff alone and get your shaggy wolf ass in here!”
The chief was irritated.
The growl caught everyone by surprise and shocked the entire office into silence. It was the
sound of an irritated dire-wolf.
“I have arrangements to make. I’ll be there when I’ve finished.”
“Dima! What the hell has gotten into you?” the chief asked.
The growl was louder this time and more menacing. Turning back toward Danni, Dmitri said,
“We need to talk later. But right now, I have an old bear to deal with. I’ll come for you after work.”
Holding her closely, he kissed her again, reveling in the passion she returned. Retreating gently,
he looked into her haunted eyes.
“Mishka,” she said, about a second before she fainted.
