Book 2 from Gambler’s Folly–Dante’s Angel!

Here’s the blurb.

Dante wouldn’t have missed his boss’s wedding for the world, but he’s never been off his home planet, Gambler’s Folly. And attending the wedding only aggravates his very single status. Dante doesn’t date much. He has trouble even asking a woman out for dinner. What must it be like to meet your soul mate?

But Dante’s troubles haven’t even begun until he meets Damiano’s cousin, Angela. A bit on the wild side, and with quite the attitude, their initial meeting leaves them both irritated. But their second meeting in the olive grove leaves them breathless, as they try to figure out how to break the news to the family.

Follow the two of them as they struggle to hold it together until they can be properly married in church—in a double wedding with Dam and Kari—to keep the family happy.

Excerpt:

“But before we go our own ways,” he began before pulling her closer and forking his fingers up through her hair, “I would like to settle the question.”

“What question?” she asked.

Leaning closer, his hand in her hair suggested she turn her face up toward his. With his lips nearly touching hers, he waited for her permission, which she gave him by pressing up on her toes to close the distance.

Yes, her lips were as delicious as he’d hoped, like ripe cherries and sweet wine. His kiss lingered, wishing it would never end. Her taste combined with her scent made his head whirl. And he was not prepared for her lips to part and for the tip of her tongue to invite him in.

Finally parting, they gazed at each other in astonishment. “Dio! What are we going to do?” Angela asked, searching his face.

Irresistibly drawn to Damiano, Karianna enters a world of wealth and glamour in his casinos, while he teaches her the meaning of pleasure and sensuality in his bed. It hadn’t started out that way, but after three books published and at least three more to go, Jareth, First Lord has turned into Esperance, The Series.

JARETH, FIRST LORD Book 1

This is where it all started. Jareth, psychic ruler of his clan, lost his wife in childbirth. With no heir, he must seek a new partner, but after two years, isn’t sure he’s ready.

Viviane, youngest daughter of a neighboring first lord, is a widow, after her husband was killed in a fall. Struggling to survive on her own, she isn’t sure she’ll ever be able to open her heart to love again.

Traveling to the neighboring clan to settle a dispute, Jareth is drawn to the dark-haired beauty in the crowd. Choosing her as part of the spoils, he has no idea she is related to the ruling house.

Viviane is relieved to be chosen. Her other option was to move home, back to the clan seat. And that would never do. She wanted nothing to do with first families. Imagine her dismay when she learns Jareth hopes to make her his First Lady.

VIVIANE, FIRST LADY Book 2

After their marriage, Viviane struggles to control those psychic Talents brought out by the stresses of the previous year. On top of it all, she and Jareth will have to go to her brother’s trial, bringing even more stress to her life.

But if these Talents are frustrating during the day, they do make her evenings with Jareth more exciting…

MORGAN–THE PIXIE AND THE GREEN MAN Book 3

Morgan’s life has not been an easy one. Abused by her father and molested by an uncle, she is glad Jareth came to her clan and asked for volunteers for the Choosing.

But a few short months after moving to Clan Brannach, she is assaulted by one of the young men of the clan. Rescued from what was certainly going to be rape and possibly murder, she is completely off the idea of love and romance.

Until she meets James…

James Ferguson fell in love the first time he saw Morgan–which was when he helped rescue her. Having given her time to recover, he hopes to date her and make her his wife.

But how can he win her heart if she won’t even have a cup of tea with him?

What’s next?

TALENTS–THE STRUGGLE FOR CONTROL

This continues Viviane’s story, and brings in the story of her nephew, Connell, who will be the heir to Clan Belfort.

So go check out Esperance,  world of hopes and dreams, with psychically talented rulers, and women with minds of their own. A place where romance is in the air, from the lush forests to the majestic mountains.

Come share the Romance…

Black and whiteBesides Dante’s Angel, of course.

The book I have in queue after this is a stand-alone, a United States from a different timeline, where it has a different name and culture. A timeline where the internal combustion engine hasn’t been discovered yet and France had a much greater influence.

This version of America is divided into kingdoms rather than states, each autonomous and under the rule of barons, earls and dukes.

Enter Anne-Marie. Born into a lower class family, she dreams of one day wearing the silks and pearls of the high born women. Frustrated with her lot in life, she runs away, only to discover something much worse.

Until Richard enters the scene. Richard comes from a long aristocratic line of merchant marines. He owns LeMarnier Shipping on the west coast and is the Master of the Fleet over his ships.

He’s also the most eligible bachelor on the Cote d’Or, and Anne-Marie sets her cap on him to be her next meal ticket. Which seems to work out well for her, until–

–she sees a way to go home again and gloat over those who had tried to keep her from rising in the world.

And where she makes her biggest mistake.

Mel and Gambler's FollyWhen I wrote Gambler’s Folly, I had no idea I was writing the first book in a  five book series. Why do I do this to myself? (sigh)

Dante’s Angel will be Book 2 from Gambler’s Folly. Mentioned a few times in Gambler’s Folly, Dante works with Damiano and is the youngest member of his team. Tall, with a Mediterranean look, he is generally happy with his life.

But when Dam and Kari return to Earth for a big church wedding, Dante is invited to come be in the wedding, along with Paulo and Marco. How could he refuse?

He’s never been off Gambler’s Folly and he has to admit he’s a little jealous of Damiano’s luck in finding a mate. What would it be like, he wondered, to find his soul mate, the one woman who was his perfect complement?

Little does he know how soon this question will be answered, in the form of Damiano’s cousin, Angela. Fiery tempered, with dark hair and amber eyes, Dante is immediately drawn to her, in spite of her wicked tongue.

…to Esperance.

Stone arch and green hills

A place of beauty, wonder, and, of course, Talent.

Excerpt from Viviane, First Lady.

“So, how were you planning to catch fish for dinner?” Viviane asked. “I don’t see any fishing gear anywhere, except for a bucket.”

“I was planning to coax them over to the bank and pick them out of the water,” he told her. Normally he wouldn’t use his talents for something this simple, but he thought it would be a good lesson for her at this stage of her training. Besides, with the need to bring everything in with them, he’d forgotten to bring any fishing tackle along.

“You’re kidding, aren’t you?” she asked, not sure what to believe.

“What kind of fish do you want for dinner,” he asked, ignoring the question. “Up here there are silverback, gold speck, rainbows, and cat’s eyes.”

Looking at him like she was humoring a lunatic, she said, “Well, since I have a choice, I really like gold speck.”

“Gold speck it is then. I think I’ll get a couple rainbows to go along with them.”

He took off his shoes and socks, rolled up his trousers, and stepped into the shallow water at the edge of the stream. Standing quite still, he mentally reached out gently to find the fish he wanted, and then pulled them toward his location by the bank. One by one he picked them up and put them in the bucket of water, three gold speck and two rainbows.

Black and whiteEver have one of those thoughts that just sits in the back of your mind and develops? That’s how I came up with the story Gambler’s Folly. A thought of what if?  How could it happen?
It all started with a song–South Coast, as sung by the Kingston Trio. (https://youtu.be/1psCACHj4as)
It begins with a man winning a woman in a card game. But that couldn’t happen today. Right?
Or could it?
And if so, how?
How, in this modern day and time, or even on into the future, could a man win his wife in a card game? What are the odds of that?
Hence, Gambler’s Folly. A pleasure world where the games are dangerous and the stakes are high.

Black and whiteWhen I began the Esperance series, I hadn’t envisioned this particular story. The book after Viviane, First Lady would continue the story of Jareth and Viviane, and then a book about the heir of Belfort.

But something about Morgan called to me. She needed for her story to be told. So I had to ask myself why she was in Brannach. Had she been chosen or had she volunteered to go back with First Lord Jareth during the Choosing?

What was her background? If a volunteer, why would she decide to leave her clan?

We know what happened a few short months after she arrived in Brannach. How did this affect her life?

And her new romance, James Ferguson. What was the story of his family? And what impact did this have on his interest in Morgan?

MORGAN–The Pixie and the Green Man is a story within a story. A little vignette built around someone who was originally only a minor character along a plot line.

But her story has affected me strongly. She is fragile, yet strong. Loving and caring, yet afraid to love.

Come with me to Esperance and meet Morgan and James, along with Jareth and Viviane and the Ferguson family. Meet Grandad with his wacky sense of humor. Find out what makes the Fergusons unique.

MORGAN–The Pixie and the Green Man.

Come to Esperance, for fantasy romance on a distant highland world.
