Black and whiteYes, it is a very chilly day down here near Atlanta. I think it has finally reached 30 degrees outside this morning. And it’s 11 am!

So, now that Viviane First Lady is in pre-sale, what am I working on?

A new novel in the raw is with my editor now. A stand alone book, not of the Esperance series, Mistaken Identity is a romantic intrigue. Krista Carlisle is a music teacher, though she’s had some military and martial arts training. But because of that training she is mistaken for something she’s not during a military strike in her home town.

Taken to their sister world, imprisoned and interrogated, they finally have to agree that she isn’t what they thought she was. Now destined to remain on this world in servitude for life, she thinks only of a way to escape.

But Commander Romanov has other plans which will make use of all that hand-to-hand training she’s had,as well as her knowledge of her home world and her ease with the social graces. Those he’s used before in this particular venture had two strikes against them. They knew virtually nothing about their sister world and they couldn’t mingle with society’s upper crust without looking out of place.

Krista could, if he can convince her to work with him for the sake of both worlds.

So, as this book goes under the knife, my other WIP is set in an alternate timeline of the American Northwest where those with sufficient ability learn to control the elements of their birth month and year to shape the world around them. Master of the Fleet is a paranormal fantasy romance–if I can shape its elements to a close…

Jareth Press Release

Black and whiteYes, the sequel to Jareth, First Lord will be coming up this spring. Continuing the story of Jareth and Viviane, we read more of Viviane and of her struggles with new and previously unknown talents.

Here’s a quick excerpt!

Jareth gazed at Viviane over a cup of tea. She felt he had something on his mind, but wasn’t sure how to start.

“Okay, what is it then?” she asked. “It couldn’t be anything too awful or you wouldn’t have to think so much about it.”

“It’s something your father and I talked about when he was here for the wedding,” Jareth answered. “He noticed something about you which hadn’t been obvious to him before. He felt it was important enough to speak with me privately.”

“Something about me?” She wasn’t sure whether to be angry, insulted, or amused by this. “What could he possibly have noticed after all this time?”

“Let me begin from a different direction.” Jareth began. “What do you know about the specialties of First Lords and the ruling houses that sets them apart?”

Viviane thoughtfully sipped her tea. She’d never given it much thought. The First Lords were just First Lords. The leadership was hereditary, descending from father to firstborn son, or on rare occasions, daughter.

“I know we were brought out of the Times of Confusion by the ancestors of our current First Lords. They were the strongest families and leaders of the time and were able to unite those around them to form the clans. The clans bear the names of the first families and the lineage is traceable back to the very first lords.”

“Yes, but what gave them their strength?” he asked. “How, after all that time in confusion and anarchy, were they able to bring the people together and enforce some order?

Viviane pondered the question for a minute before answering.

“Well, I’ve heard rumors about some sort of mental ability they’re supposed to have, but I always thought it was a myth. Some of us used to make fun of it when we were children, pretending we could influence people with the power of the mind.  I never thought there was anything to it. I kind of figured if they had some kind of ability, my father and Carl wouldn’t have so much trouble keeping track of me. I could get by with nearly anything I wanted to. I would disappear for hours, hiding until I wanted to be found. It drove my father insane.”

Jareth laughed at this picture. Viviane supposed it was rather humorous, making fun of the First Lord and doing her best to mock the traditions of the family. It would probably come back to haunt her.

Works in Progress!

Black and whiteWith the re-release of Jareth, First Lord last fall, and the anticipated release of the sequel, Viviane, First Lady this spring, what else is in the works?

One of my very first attempts has been re-edited, re-written and sent off to RuleBreaker Editing for a first edit.

MISTAKEN IDENTITY

Mistaken for off duty Special Forces, Krista is captured and taken back to their sister and rival planet for interrogation. When it is discovered that she can’t give them any information, she is relegated to slave status, never to see her home world again.

But the commander of the facility, Michael Romanoff, has a plan with her at its center. A plan to infiltrate the organization fueling the fires of their interplanetary troubles and cut the rot out at its core. If he can gain her co-operation….

And lest you think I’m being lazy, I’m currently finishing the first draft of another novel, Master of the Fleet.

He is Lord Sir Richard LeMarnier, inhabiting an alternate timeline in North America. Well over six feet tall, tanned from weeks on the high seas, blond hair bleached by the sun and sea, his blue eyes are intense. His command over the elements wind and water is among the best in the world.

She is Anne-Marie, seamstress and socialite on the Côte. Her dark hair and nut-brown skin bring out the jade green of her eyes. She is attracted to Richard, but isn’t interested in marriage. Men are for using, not for keeps and Richard is one of the wealthiest men she’s met.

Unfortunately for her, that extra glass or two of wine loosened her tongue and her temper as she finds herself bound to Richard by an oath of loyalty, a blood oath and marriage vows.

How can she get out of this predicament, or use it to her advantage? There may be more to this relationship than it initially appears.

And what can Richard do, now married to a woman who will never love him?

Don’t worry. I have a few more on the back burner, just waiting their turns.

Happy New Year!

Small Formal Black2Here’s another year come and gone, and I have to say I’m happy with it. I published Jareth, First Lord with FreedomInk365 this year and have the sequel, Viviane, First Lady,  in the hands of the editor.

I’m working on the third book in the Jareth series and I have one more novel, slightly different in nature, to publish later next year. Not to mention at least two others that are in the “nearly finished” stages.

I’ve also made a little headway into getting my Reiki and Access Bars business up and running. It’s starting a little slowly, but that is to be expected out here in rural America.

What would like to see in this blog in the New Year? I’ll be writing about FreedomInk events and my writing of course, but what else would be of interest?

Happy Thanksgiving!

CommercialGrowing up in farm country, preparation for Thanksgiving began late in September or early in October. There were rum cakes to make, and they needed about 6 weeks to get fully soused. And we made cakes for about half the county, I think, besides the ones we made for our family.

And then there was the fudge… Nobody, it seemed, could follow the recipe my mother gave out, so they all came back begging for various sorts in time for Thanksgiving. With a sigh, she began the multiple batches of fudge, from several different chocolate fudges, white fudge and divinity fudge. The house smelled wonderful, but even I, the original chocoholic, got tired of the scent of chocolate.

A few days before Thanksgiving, the pies began coming out of the oven. Everybody had a favorite, so the scents of pumpkin, apple, mince meat, and elderberry wafted through the house.

And where would we be without spice cake and home made bread? We had two ovens in the kitchen and we kept them going for days before the holidays.

Thanksgiving morning had a special tradition at our house. Dad, my sister, Linda, and I got up early, dressed warmly and headed out to the fields to go pheasant hunting. In northern Ohio, there was usually snow on the ground and the weeds along the fences sparkled in the morning sunlight. The snow crunched and squeaked beneath our boots and our breath became little puffs of fog as we walked along.

Once in a while we actually scared up a pheasant, but mostly it was just special time with Dad. He’d talk about the various trees in the woods and fence rows and how to identify them by their bark. Or he’d tell old family stories about growing up in Tennessee in the early 1900’s.

By around 11:00, we’d be back in the house, by the fire, drinking coffee or hot cocoa. Then we girls would join Mom in the kitchen to put the finishing touches on dinner before guests began to arrive. The smells from the ovens was inviting and all the baked goods displayed in the dining room just begged to be tasted as we set the table.

Thanksgiving dinner was a wonderful time to be together with family and friends. The food was always exquisite, the company warm and jovial. But to me, the magic of Thanksgiving was that early morning stroll through the countryside with Dad, pheasants or no pheasants.

Wishing you all the best this Thanksgiving Day. Share your traditions with us. Together we can build new memories.
