How has 2021 started out for you? Here in Georgia, it has been a bit warmer than normal, which worries me a little. So many times we have warmer weather early, and then, just as the trees and bushes start to bud out for spring, we get a hard frost and kill the buds. Meaning no fruit or flowers from them.

But we’re enjoying the outdoors nonetheless. As soon as my tendinitis is better, I’ll get back to my daily walks. Yes, I know. I’m a klutz…

It’s Autumn!

My favorite season of the year. The turning leaves, wood fires in the fireplace, a nice cuppa and a good book… I love the cooler evenings, with the windows open and the breezes whisking cool, clean air through the house.

GAMBLER’S FOLLY takes place on a futuristic pleasure world featuring shape shifters and their mates. Book 1, Gambler’s Folly introduces the setting and general tone of the series. There are currently 3 books in the series, with more to come.

ESPERANCE is more of a frontier world, a world lost to Earth and left to fend for itself. Ruled by First Lords with vast psychic abilities, you’ll discover that Talent can be found in many of the inhabitants of this world in just as many forms. Book 1 introduces Jareth and Viviane, their trials and troubles, and brings in the idea of Talents. Tere are three books in this series also, with more in the offing.

MASTER OF THE FLEET is a stand alone under the pen name Sultonna Nadine. The Cote d’Or exists in an alternate universe on the west coast of what we know as the United States. In this world, magic is part of every day life. Richard Lemarnier controls wind and water, but his love life oculd use a little magic. Can he win his lady’s heart?

What’s Coming Up?

No, I haven’t quit writing… But the editing takes time. And I have two series and a stand alone line to keep going.

I have a new book with the editor right now under the Sultonna Nadine name titled Mistaken Identity. It is a romantic intrigue set in a star system with two inhabited worlds on the brink of war. And it appears their best shot at gaining the intel to avert catastrophe lies with a troublesome female prisoner Commander Romaoff is holding in his prison on Novay Kemlya.

In the Gambler’s Folly series, I’m working on the editing for Book 4–Old Flame. Kort and Liz met at university. While they were good friends, they never actually dated. Since then, they’ve both pretty much given up on love. But thirty years after university, they meet by chance, on their way to Gambler’s Folly.

From Esperance we have Talents, Book 4 in the series. This continues Viviane’s story from Book 2. She is still struggling to control her Talents, with limited success. After the commotion she caused at her brother’s trial, she is afraid of her Talents and wishes they would go away. Hence her troubles. On top of everything else, her Talents and Jareth’s will prevent pregnancy until she has a handle on her abilities, and no amount of wishing will help.

At the same time, her nephew, Connell is having troubles of his own with Talent. Only his problem is mainly getting them reawakened to the point where he can train to rule the clan in his grandfather’s stead. But at eleven years old, it’s a pretty heavy load.

And then there is Whiskey Jug Genie, which is a fun little story I’ll probably publish as Sultonna Nadine. A London apothecary shop owner and herbalist, Martin, tours the American Southeast and buys an old whiskey jug to display in his shop. But when he pulls the stopper in his apartment, a genie–or djinn as he prefers to be called–who has been trapped in the jug for a couple centuries comes out to completely disrupt his life. A redneck genie with a unique manner of speaking who is completely out of touch with the modern world.

So wish me luck on my editing and wish my editor patience and perseverance. We;ll be back to you with new reads as soon as we can.

The End of May

It seems too soon for the month to be ending, but it is. And with the end of May comes the end of the book sale over at Smashwords. So if you haven’t checked it out, tomorrow, May 31 is your last chance.

So what else has been happening in my world?

We had a solid week of drizzle and rain, with temperatures in the 60’s. So now, during the past two days, the rain has ended and the temperatures have soared into the 80’s. Great for the tomatoes, but I’m not so keen on the shift.

I finished the first draft of Whiskey Jug Genie and set it aside to rest for a little while and am back to shaping the ending for Lady Calloway. What that girl can get up to…

And I have a new website to share, where you can find all my books, with previews and links. It’s over at Author Uproar. Go take a look for me and let me know what you think.

But the deck garden seems to be coming along, so when I need a break from dominant males and feisty females, I go chill on the deck with the cat and my herbs. They’re a lot less stressful.

So What’s New?

Now that The Russian is live on Amazon and Smashwords as an ebook, it’s time to get it and a couple others ready for paperback. What with my husband’s knee surgery in January, things have been a little busy to deal with the aggravation of formatting.

And then?

I think I’ll spend some time to finish a couple other books I have nearly finished, but set aside to get The Russian published and out to the world.

There is Whiskey Jug Genie, my 2019 NanNoWriMo project, which is nearly finished–as far as a first draft. In this Sultonna Nadine book, a London herbalist tours the American Southeast and buys an old whiskey jug, not realizing it was inhabited. When he releases the genie in his living room, the fun begins.

Then there is Lady Calloway, another Sultonna Nadine offering, set in an alternate timeline of Victorian England. She’s a small town girl from up North. He works for the church down in London and comes from a family of confessors–psychically gifted people who can bring any sinner to confession, no matter the cost.

And then there is Protector of the Red Dragon, from Sultonna Nadine. A fantasy set partially in modern times and partially in the 16th century, it combines fantasy, romance, and a touch of magic to usher in an era of peace and prosperity involving twin sisters, a magical sword, and a dragon.

While that’s all happening, Mistaken Identity is with my editor going through the initial edits. This is another stand alone from Sultonna Nadine. Captured in a brief military strike against her world from their sister planet, Krista is mistaken for someone she’s not. By the time her captors are convinced of the truth, the commander of the facility has hatched a plan with her at its core. Can she learn enough fast enough to help bring off a plan which will benefit both worlds, without losing her life, or heart, in the process?

And then there are the other books in the Esperance and Gambler’s Folly Series to finish editing. A couple need finishing as well. And some are waiting to be written, with a new idea popping up earlier this morning.

So it looks like it will be a busy year here on the farm. The Monster and Miss Kitty have settled in to give me a hand, so we’re all set.

What is The Russian?

Danni has no time for romance. In her mid-twenties, she works at Interpol during the week, and on the weekends and after hours, she helps her frail mother. She tries to save enough money so they can share a place, but the rent keeps going up on her mother’s apartment, leaving her with not quite enough to make it happen.

And one night, her fears come to life on her way home just after dark. Several gang members surround her threatening violence until warm strong hands rest on her shoulders and a deep authoritative voice orders them to disperse.

Release Day!

Yes! Tomorrow is release day for THE RUSSIAN–Gambler’s Folly Book 3.

He is Dmitri Ivanovich Volkov, a wolf-shifter often referred to as The Russian. Born over five hundred years ago, he has been a lone wolf since his soulmate died in his arms. Since then he has avoided  long-term relationships. But maybe the universe is giving him a second chance at happiness.

Dani works for The Agency, in Speranza, on Gambler’s Folly. Most of her time is spent working or caring for her mother. She’d been lucky up until now, but tonight she’s accosted by one of the street gangs and is sure she’ll soon be dead.

Rainy Weather

Yes, it looks like it’s going to be another wet Friday. After last week’s eight inches of rain, I’m not feelin’ it. Know what I mean?

The sun has been playing hide and seek all day long and we’ve had a few small showers, but tomorrow should be wet.

A good day for reading.

What have you been reading lately? Anything to share?

I’ve been reading The Painted Lady Inn Mystery Books, by M.K. Scott and I thoroughly adore them. I like to write fantasy romance, but my reading preferences share the romance with mysteries.

Back to the Beginning

Several years ago, before I began working on Gambler’s Folly, I wrote a very long book. My first. Even then, I realized I would have to make at least two books out of it. The word count was astronomical.

It has been on the back burner since then. Recently, while I was going through some of my files, I saw it hiding in there among the rest of the To Do items and decided to drag it out and have a look.

I still love the story, but it will take a lot of work. So while I’m finishing the ending of Lady Calloway, I’ve pulled out Mistaken Identity to edit. I’m about halfway through the first round, and it will take several rounds before it’s even ready to send to an editor.

What is it about?

When Earth began to expand outward into space, they came across a star system with two habitable planets. Since them, both planets have been transformed into worlds for colonization and have been thriving.

Unfortunately, they don’t get along.

She is a music instructor at the university on her world, former military, and has a love of the martial arts.

He is the commander of a large regional military base on his world. When a tactical strike at their neighboring world brings her to his facility, he doesn’t realize she’s the answer to his current interplanetary problem.

All she wants is to go home, but that is forever forbidden. The last thing she wants is to fall in love.
