As most of you know, I usually write full length novels. But sometimes, I have an idea for a nice short story.

And that’s the case with Moonlight and Shadows.

If you’ve never been out at night, in the high desert around southwestern Wyoming, you simply can’t imagine the magical feel of the area. In the moonlight, everything appears as shades of gray in a world of shifting shadows. It seems that nearly anything could happen out there.

If you get far enough way from town, there is nothing and nobody except the wind in the sage brush and the moonlight casting shadows all around. You may see the occasional jack rabbit or hear the coyotes in the distance, but it is a different world out there. Some people find it intimidating or spooky. Some people hate the sound of the wind.

I’ve always found it a place of mystery and magic. But can you really trust your eyes in the moonlight?

So here is my little story for you. As you might expect, it is paranormal in nature. Meet our MC who is a DEA agent hoping to be on time for a meeting with an informant. And of course, everything is going wrong on this particular evening. But I don’t want to give it all away. And at some point, I may turn it into a full length novel. Who knows?

So go on over to Vocal.Media and click on Moonlight and Shadows. Of course, I would love it if you checked out a few of my other stories there as well.

Wishing you a wonderful, peaceful, and happy weekend.

And as always,

No, not like that… I mean as in Vocal.Media, the online place for those of a creative bent to share their work.

I’ve had a few things up on Vocal.Media for a little while now. Sometimes I write about events in the news, or things on my mind. Sometimes I create short stories to share with others.

Either way, it gives people a chance to check out my work without buying one of my longer novels, and for free at that!

Looking for a short fiction work?

How about The Reward, Warrior Priestess, or The Walk?

Maybe something more down to earth…

There’s Diabetic and Confused, What’s Different, and The Digital Age.

Go over, check it out, and if you like it, leave a tip.

Want an excerpt? Here’s something from The Digital Age.

I know many of you have grown up in this digital age, where everything is available online, on your phone, or on your tablet. And I will admit, it can be extremely convenient when doing research, especially thinking back to all the hours I spent in the library before this digital age. College papers would have been so much easier if I could have researched them online.

The thing is, though, that we are now dependent on all things digital. At the moment, I’m having a real problem.

I don’t normally enter writing contests or challenges. They’re just not my thing. But recently I saw a challenge on Vocal.Media that sparked my interest.

Called The Little Black Book Challenge, it invited you to submit a short story which in some way revolved around a little black book. Why this interested me, I’m not sure.

So I sat down and wrote a short story, coming in just under the word limit–did I mention I normally write tomes?

Anyway, it has been reviewed and submitted to the challenge. Now all I need to do is get it out to the world to read.

Which is where you come in.

Go over to the challenge and take a look at it. If you like the story, please make sure to give it a Like on the page. And share it with your friends!

Sometimes I have an idea I like, but it isn’t enough for a novel. Just a brief thought sparked by a conversation, an interesting face, or some musings of my own.

So what to do with them?

Vocal.Media!

I have several article length stories on Vocal from my inner conversations. The first one is about the Digital Age and how dependent we’ve become on our electronics.

The second one discusses how different things are now from when I was growing up on a farm in Ohio. One of our grandsons asked me what had changed since I was his age, which set me to thinking.

The most recent article is called The Box. It came in the form of a dream, touching on the subject of that hidden place in our minds. That place we keep secret from the rest of the world.

What if it were are a real place? What would it look like if you could visit it. And how would you react to what is inside?

The Box, a story about sunlight and shadows, darkness and light.

For the others:

The Digital Age

What’s Different?

You may have to sign up with Vocal to read them, but there are thousands of interesting articles and stories on many topics there.

So go on over and take a peek–not only at my work, but browse around and see what else you can find.

Have a great week!
