With Dante’s Angel sent off to the publisher, I’ve gone back to Gambler’s Folly for a third book. The Russian will be the third book in the series.

In this book, we meet Dmitri Ivanovich Volkov, a wolf-shifter so old he doesn’t remember exactly how old he is. He grew up, at least in part, in what used to be Russia, back on old Earth. He’s on Gambler’s Folly tracking an illegal drug shipment.

Two hundred years ago, his soul mate died and he swore he would never take a mate again. It was much too difficult to lose someone who was that close to you.

But what do you do when you  meet another soul mate? Shouldn’t there only be one to a lifetime?

Excerpt:

“If it hadn’t been for her scent, he would have been fine. The lilacs with honeyed-vanilla and white musk scent wrapped around him softly. Hazel eyes under blonde curls had drawn him in. He’d thought, after all this time, he would have control over his urges. What had possessed him to kiss her?

Her mouth, now. There was a treat. Fresh raspberries and sweet white wine still teased his palette. Between her scent and her taste, he was one messed up wolf. He wanted to run through the forest, roll in the leaves, and howl to his pack mates about this delicious female he’d met.

It was good he wouldn’t see her again. He didn’t need a mate. Life around him was too uncertain. Besides, he’d had a mate long ago and, when she’d died, she’d taken his heart with her.

No. He was here for a job. He had no time for females.”

So, in the meantime, if you haven’t read Gambler’s Folly, now’s’ your chance! It’s available at Amazon in both eBook and paperback.

Dante’s Angel will be out later this year, so watch for it!

Now it’s time for me to get back to work and see what the crazy Russian is up to.

Have a great weekend!

Well, it has been sent off to the publisher. Dante’s Angel, that is. Here’s hoping they love it and it will be a huge success.

Gambler’s Folly is a pleasure center in the galaxy. Whatever you want, you can find there, whether it’s gambling, beaches, mountains. Exciting times or relaxing times, you can find it on Gambler’s Folly.

But like anyplace else, there is a darker underside to this pleasure paradise–the syndicate. Many of the syndicate members function on the wrong side of the law, bringing in drugs and other illegal substances and practices.

One of the most dangerous players is Damiano Leone, owner of the Stella d’Oro and other enterprises on Gambler’s Folly. Only he isn’t quite what he seems. Or perhaps he’s even more. His wife and mate he won from her husband on one hand of cards. The man had run up a debt of over a million credits. This was his way out. If he won, he kept his wife, his debts were cleared, and he would leave on the next shuttle out.

But if he lost–which he did–though his debts were still cleared, his wife, Karianna,  became the possession of Damiano Leone.

Have do I see my world of Esperance?

“It was a beautiful day for an outing and Jareth was in a fantastic and infectious mood. Their path had taken them through the edge of the forest before heading up into the mountains. Shadows played hide and seek as the sun shone through the tree leaves. Shifting sunbeams lit gem colored wildflowers sparkling in reds and purples against the dark green of the forest. Reaching a chuckling stream, which leapt from a waterfall high above before following the mountain downward, they dismounted and made ready for a picnic. The water sparkled blue and violet in the sun, as mist from the cascade nourished the grass and moss turning it a lush emerald green.

Spreading a cloth on a huge slab of black shale next to the water’s edge, they unpacked the meat, cheese, and freshly baked bread the kitchen had sent with them, its aroma whetting their appetites. Jareth stretched out opposite her beside the shale table, smiling happily.

He was putting on his best performance today. Attentive, with an ease which shouldn’t be possible, he fairly swept Viviane off her feet. She didn’t know whether to beat a hasty retreat or stay and enjoy it. Like a schoolgirl on her first date, she was all blushes and too timid to meet his eye. She was still having trouble speaking, which he pretended not to notice.”

Black and white

While Dante’s Angel is with my editor, I’m working on the next book in the Gambler’s Folly series–The Russian.

Here’s a little taste!

“The tall, lanky man strode through the emigration hall on Gambler’s Folly with an ease and confidence that spoke of danger. At first glance, most people assumed ex-military. At second glance they decided he was syndicate.

The shaved head, neatly groomed stubble, and ice cold eyes did nothing to dispel this impression. Neither did the expensive shirt, with the first three buttons open under an expensive and worn dark leather vest. The black denim jeans hugged him snugly over boots whose cost would have fed a family of four for six months.

Dmitri Ivanovich Volkov, otherwise known as the Russian, encouraged this impression. it had served him well for a long, long time. People left him alone, which suited him fine. he was a loner and preferred the peace that came with the image.”

Now that we’ve met Dmitri, let’s hear a little about the woman who captures his heart, Danni.

He wanted to run through the forest, roll in the leaves, and howl to his pack mates about this delicious female he’d met.”

Watch for what, you ask?

Book 2 from Gambler’s Folly–Dante’s Angel!

Here’s the blurb.

Dante wouldn’t have missed his boss’s wedding for the world, but he’s never been off his home planet, Gambler’s Folly. And attending the wedding only aggravates his very single status. Dante doesn’t date much. He has trouble even asking a woman out for dinner. What must it be like to meet your soul mate?

But Dante’s troubles haven’t even begun until he meets Damiano’s cousin, Angela. A bit on the wild side, and with quite the attitude, their initial meeting leaves them both irritated. But their second meeting in the olive grove leaves them breathless, as they try to figure out how to break the news to the family.

Follow the two of them as they struggle to hold it together until they can be properly married in church—in a double wedding with Dam and Kari—to keep the family happy.

Excerpt:

“But before we go our own ways,” he began before pulling her closer and forking his fingers up through her hair, “I would like to settle the question.”

“What question?” she asked.

Leaning closer, his hand in her hair suggested she turn her face up toward his. With his lips nearly touching hers, he waited for her permission, which she gave him by pressing up on her toes to close the distance.

Yes, her lips were as delicious as he’d hoped, like ripe cherries and sweet wine. His kiss lingered, wishing it would never end. Her taste combined with her scent made his head whirl. And he was not prepared for her lips to part and for the tip of her tongue to invite him in.

Finally parting, they gazed at each other in astonishment. “Dio! What are we going to do?” Angela asked, searching his face.

MORGAN–The Pixie and the Green Man

Excerpt:

Morgan dropped her bag by the door and slumped wearily into an old, comfortable chair. What had she done? Had she made a date with James? For lunch?

She couldn’t go. Why had she said she would? It was too much, too soon. It would probably always be too soon. After her experiences, she was completely off men. Not that she fancied women, she thought. But men always had ulterior motives. One lunch led to another, and then dinner, and after dinner. Eventually, they all wanted the same thing.

And she was having none of it. When she was younger, she’d dreamed of having a handsome, loving man, who would take care of her. As she grew older, she slowly realized such a man didn’t exist. Not in her world anyway.

Her family was always in strife. Her father and mother argued all the time and when he’d had a pint or ten, her father used them all for punching practice.

One of her uncles always tried to get her alone somewhere, so he could paw at her and maybe get the chance to “break her in.” She’d managed to avoid that, somehow. When she knew he would be at the house, she found something else to do, somewhere else to be. Once she’d finished school, she used work as an excuse and prayed for a way out.

When First Lord Jareth came to Clan Belfort, she’d jumped at the chance to leave. She’d been one of the first to volunteer. Her family had been livid when they’d found out, but there was nothing they could do. She’d made her escape.

Things had been looking up, until Ian found her. And then the whole sordid affair began, which landed her here in the market and afraid to have lunch with James, the handsome young man with green eyes and dimples. If it weren’t for those dimples…

She couldn’t decide if being alone or being in a crowd was worse. She was afraid either way, except with James. For some reason, he made her feel safe. Well, as safe as she ever felt. She couldn’t believe she’d accepted his comforting arm around her in front of the restaurant last night. She’d needed someone to lean on, and he’d cared enough to help.

Maybe lunch, one lunch, would be all right. Maybe he was different.

After writing Jareth, First Lord, I couldn’t get little Morgan out of my head. So quiet and retiring, I felt I had to write her story.

Morgan’s home life was abusive and she would do anything to get away. So when Jareth, First Lord of Clan Brannach came to her clan and demanded the Choosing, she volunteered to leave her clan.

Unfortunately, a few short months after her decision, she is attacked by a young man in her new clan. He’d approached her several times, but she’d refused to go out with him. He wouldn’t take no for an answer.

Saved from certain rape and possibly murder, the man is tried, found guilty, and executed. And Morgan is offered a new job at the local grocery. After her ordeal, added to her past life, she’s off men altogether. They can’t be trusted.

Until James walks into the store and into her life.

He’d been one of the men who came to her rescue and had been biding his time to let her recover. But he’d fallen had over heels in love with her when he’d first seen her.

Now, how can he win her heart if she won’t even walk across the square for a cup of tea?

And if he does win the heart  of this black-haired pixie, can she accept those things about him that make his family unique?

MORGAN–The Pixie and the Green Man. A story within a story. A romance with a happily-ever-after on a distant highland world known as Esperance.

ESPERANCE–The Series

It hadn’t started out that way, but after three books published and at least three more to go, Jareth, First Lord has turned into Esperance, The Series.

JARETH, FIRST LORD Book 1

This is where it all started. Jareth, psychic ruler of his clan, lost his wife in childbirth. With no heir, he must seek a new partner, but after two years, isn’t sure he’s ready.

Viviane, youngest daughter of a neighboring first lord, is a widow, after her husband was killed in a fall. Struggling to survive on her own, she isn’t sure she’ll ever be able to open her heart to love again.

Traveling to the neighboring clan to settle a dispute, Jareth is drawn to the dark-haired beauty in the crowd. Choosing her as part of the spoils, he has no idea she is related to the ruling house.

Viviane is relieved to be chosen. Her other option was to move home, back to the clan seat. And that would never do. She wanted nothing to do with first families. Imagine her dismay when she learns Jareth hopes to make her his First Lady.

VIVIANE, FIRST LADY Book 2

After their marriage, Viviane struggles to control those psychic Talents brought out by the stresses of the previous year. On top of it all, she and Jareth will have to go to her brother’s trial, bringing even more stress to her life.

But if these Talents are frustrating during the day, they do make her evenings with Jareth more exciting…

MORGAN–THE PIXIE AND THE GREEN MAN Book 3

Morgan’s life has not been an easy one. Abused by her father and molested by an uncle, she is glad Jareth came to her clan and asked for volunteers for the Choosing.

But a few short months after moving to Clan Brannach, she is assaulted by one of the young men of the clan. Rescued from what was certainly going to be rape and possibly murder, she is completely off the idea of love and romance.

Until she meets James…

James Ferguson fell in love the first time he saw Morgan–which was when he helped rescue her. Having given her time to recover, he hopes to date her and make her his wife.

But how can he win her heart if she won’t even have a cup of tea with him?

What’s next?

TALENTS–THE STRUGGLE FOR CONTROL

This continues Viviane’s story, and brings in the story of her nephew, Connell, who will be the heir to Clan Belfort.

So go check out Esperance,  world of hopes and dreams, with psychically talented rulers, and women with minds of their own. A place where romance is in the air, from the lush forests to the majestic mountains.

Come share the Romance…
