Sometimes you want to read a story, but you don’t feel like reading. You don’t feel like TV. so what do you do?

Listen to a book from Audible!

I’ve been listening to some books here lately while I drive or when I’m just restless at night and can’t sleep. In the car, it gives me something to listen to besides the sound of the engine and the rough roads around here. At night, the soothing voice helps me relax into the story so I can sleep.

Don’t know what to listen to?

The first two books from my Esperance series are available from Audible, as well as my autobiographical book concerning my bout with breast cancer--Cancer and the Warrior’s Way.

Looking for something to read instead? You can find all of my books on sale at Smashwords through April 20 in the Authors Give Back sale as well as many others.

Don’t worry if the covers here don’t match Audible. I’m still working on getting the new covers uploaded…

So whether you want to listen or read, we have you covered. Go check it out and stay safe!

Who is Morgan?

She appeared for the first time in Jareth, First Lord, as one of the girls brought back from Clan Belfort. As the series progressed, I became intrigued by her story and decided to see where she’d come from and what Clan Brannach held in store for her.

She’d had a hard life before she moved to Clan Brannach and after she arrived, she was assaulted while making deliveries for her boss. She escaped being raped only because of two young men who came to her rescue.

Sure she’ll never find a happily-ever-after, she’s given up trying.

Until she meets James, who has also given up on love. But when he first sees Morgan, muddy, battered, and bloody though she was, it was love at first sight.

But his family has secrets of its own, which has scared off most of the women in his life. One woman he was dating took off running and was nearly trampled to death in the street when he gave her a glimpse of his Talent.

Can he win Morgan’s heart? And can she accept his unique gift as well?

MORGANThe Pixie and the Green Man–Esperance Book 3

Excerpt:

“Jamie, you’re up early this morning,” his dad called out as he strode down the path. “Got plans with a dark-haired pixie?”

“Sort of. Can I talk to you for a minute?”

Leaning on the rail fence in front of his parents’ house, he told his father what had happened the previous evening.

“I don’t see how you could have done differently, son,” his father said. “If you’re serious about her, she’ll have to know sooner or later.”

“But how can I know when to bring it up? I thought Gwen…”

“Don’t look back, James,” his father said seriously. “I was never sure about Gwen. I know you loved her and hoped things would work out, but that is all in the past.”

“I’m trying to look forward, Dad. But I couldn’t live with myself if I chased Morgan away.”

“Where are you going today?” his father asked.

“For a hike up the stream. It’s a nice warm day and it should be beautiful.”

“The stream isn’t far from the forest. Take her over and introduce her. See what the forest has to say.”

Once Morgan and James become serious, he shows her a little of what he can do. As a result, her nickname for him becomes the Green Man.

Who says the Green Man is a myth? Maybe over the centuries the stories have become distorted. Perhaps the Green Man is just a guy with some unique abilities. And just maybe there is more than one…

So what does one with “a way with wood” do? Let’s take a look at one aspect of the Talent.

Here is James showing Morgan a little bit about what he could do.

MORGANThe Pixie and the Green Man

Excerpt:

“Now, you wanted to know a little bit about the Fergusons, he stated. “Watch.”

For a moment, his eyes seemed unfocused, as he reached his working level. It was similar to what Morgan did when she worked with inlay. Holding the branch with both hands, he put his thumb and index finger on either side of it, about halfway down its length, and slid them down the branch.

As she watched, the branch changed shape. Now, instead of round, it had flattened into a strip a little wider than the original and a little longer. The prickling feeling which crept up her arm was similar to what she felt when working with metal. Soon, her whole body tingled from the energy of his work.

With the other hand, he did the same thing to the other half of the branch, with the same result. Morgan watched, fascinated, as he began to shape it into something else.

From the flattened branch, his fingers began to shape little semi-circular bits, like petals, which stood up in bas-relief from the original. As she watched, they became flowers. In between, he pulled bits away from the main branch to become leaves.

Morgan held her breath, afraid of interrupting his work. Once the flowers and leaves were finished, he glanced up at her briefly before continuing.

With his fingers on either side of the branch, he began to curl the branch into a spiral, which made the flowers stand out even more. With one complete circle in the middle and two partials on either end, he pushed the coils together to shorten the overall length. When he was finished, she saw a free-form bracelet, about three inches in width.

Morgan was transfixed by the sight. It was so beautiful she was nearly in tears as he held it out to her. She gently reached out a finger to touch the little petals, still warm from the energy of the shaping.

There were no signs of breaking from the work. It was as if the branch had grown that way on the tree. The bark was even intact, its silvery color making the flowers seem to shine in the soft evening light.

“Morgan?” she heard. “Are you all right?”

“Oh, James. It is so lovely and the little flowers so dainty and beautiful.”

Yes, it’s that time of year again, when the wearing of the green, drinking green beer, and eating green food are all the rage.

But what if that isn’t your scene? Me? I just like to settle in with a nice book, maybe something with a Celtic theme to it, and a nice cup of something to drink..

Esperance. A highland world settled by people from the British Isles and then abandoned. And after centuries in this new place, some of them developed some rather unique abilities.

Or had they been there all along, hidden from the public in fear of persecution?

James Ferguson’s family has a way with wood, and a connection to the forest which would make most people nervous. But it was his family’s way to tell the women they were seriously interested in about their abilities. In James’ case, one woman ran into the street, was hit by a carriage, and nearly died.

He decided he wouldn’t try again–and then he met Morgan, with her dark hair and blue-gray eyes that drew him in. So tiny compared to him, he nicknamed her his Pixie.

But was she ready to meet the Green Man?
